Project Unboxed Interview with Elzy Milling and Trade, a Historic Feed Store

A five-minute drive off of the highway, around a winding corner, you enter into a different world. A quieter world. A snug little, yet bustling town nestled in a valley. A town where everyone knows everyone. The town of Bellville, Ohio.

I may be biased since this is the town where I went to school, but I've had out-of-towners share with me that there is something special about this quaint, all-American town.

Now I digress, today's blog post is to spotlight on a business located in the charming community of Bellville. I received the spontaneous opportunity to interview Elzy's Milling and Trade, a local feed store that is packed with history. Nestled near the Clear Fork river, Elzy's has set up shop and they continue to expand. Not only do they sell feed, fertilizers, and pet supplies, but they have a very nice home goods collection. Their home collection has everything from Lodge cast iron products, Live Simple soaps which are made local, Swan Creek Candles, and home decor items.

One of the owners gave me a tour of the store along with the Mill and shared a wealth of history along with it. I learned that the Mill was built around the time of the Civil War probably with trees that were saplings from the 1600's...unfathomable! I learned how the mill originally operated with donkeys and then became electrified in the early Twentieth Century. Elzy's continues to support a large customer base made up of farmers, ranchers, self-sufficienters, gardeners, Urbanites, bird lovers, pet owners, and so on and so forth.

The owners have a true heart for their business and their community and you can sense that walking through their facility and while conversing with them as well. You can check out their website here or stop into their brick and mortar at 25 East Ogle Street in Bellville, Ohio. Their hours are Monday and Friday 8 am to 5 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm, and Sunday closed.

Be sure to tell them Nicole sent you!
